Relational Excellence - Up close and Personal
 When it comes to relating well, my
mother, has been the best example and
greatest inspiration to me over the
years because of her ability to connect
so positively with others. Her example
taught me that interpersonal competence
is really the fruit of learning to
handle yourself well in your contact and
interaction with others.
About eleven years ago colleagues and
friends of hers put together an event to
honor my mother as an accomplished
professional with a track record for
excellence in her work and
relationships. That evening, together
with my husband and children, I sat
brimming with pride as she credited all
she had accomplished, professionally and
personally, to the decision to live a
life governed by principle and faith.
Faith-principled living is the source of
her personal power. The result is a life
well lived, rich in genuine friendship
and love; a life that is the difference
that makes the difference. I wanted that
too…and not just for myself. I wanted to
help other high achieving women
experience relational power in their
marriage and family life. |
Faith in God and in His Providential Love
And, so began my journey to fulfill my
calling to encourage women in their
marriage and family life. My commitment
to interpersonal excellence began with
my journey into faith…a journey inspired
by my mother’s faith in the goodness of
God and firm belief in his providential
love for her and for humanity. I soon
discovered that a faith perspective
indeed offered a deeply meaningful and
enriched view of reality, people, love,
and the meaning of life. |
My Professional Background
Becoming a marriage and family therapist
was a natural choice for me given my
desire to incorporate the qualities I
admired in my mother’s life into my own
marriage and family life. I’ve been in
the behavioral health field now for over
16 years. I’ve provided educational,
coaching, and therapeutic services to
individuals, couples, youth, families,
and groups. Areas of special interest to
me include: |

Along the way I found that I enjoy
educating and coaching clients far more
than treating them. I followed my heart
on that after the birth of my daughter
and established Interpersonal Excellence
with Crystal Hernandez, a business
through which I specialize in relational
wellness education and coaching for
accomplished professional women of faith
who want to create more positive
connections in their marriage and with
their children.
My husband and children benefit from my
commitment to live what I’ve learned and
teach about relating well. There’s no
greater joy for me than to pass on a
legacy—brilliantly lived by my mother—to
my children so that they may go on to
create marriages and families that are
healthy, satisfying, and enduring.
